Met de prozaïsche naam Wilhelmus Frederik (roepnaam Pim) van Putten werd ik geboren op 24 december 1971 (3 uur 33) in Lelystad, toendertijd nog Zuidelijke IJsselmeerpolders. Sinds 2000 ben ik getrouwd met Danielle Werkman, en we hebben samen 2 zonen, Tobias Hendrik (geb. 3-7-2003) en Roeland Frederik (geb. 21-3-2006).

Mijn lagere schoolperiode heb ik succesvol doorlopen aan kleuterschool De Duiventil, CBS De Rehoboth (beiden te Kampen, tot mei 1979), en Pr. Chr. basisshool Prins Willem Alexander te Elburg. Na het behalen van mijn VWO-diploma in 1990 aan het Lambert Franckens College te Elburg ben in Groningen aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen Biologie gaan studeren. In 1996 behaalde ik mijn doctoraal in de afstudeerrichting Populatiegenetica. Vanaf maart 1997 werkte ik als Onderzoeker in Opleiding aan het Nederlands instituut voor Ecologisch Onderzoek, Centrum voor Terrestrische Ecologie te Heteren. Bij de werkgroep Populatiebiologie van planten werkte ik aan mijn proefschrift over gastheerrrasvorming van brandschimmels in sympatrische populaties van Avond- en Dagkoekoeksbloemen. Hierop ben ik 25 maart 2002 gepromoveerd aan de Universiteit van Utrecht. Van 2001 tot en met 2004 was ik verbonden aan de vakgroep Evolutionaire Genetica van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen al waar ik heb gewerkt aan het evolutionair aanpassingsvermogen van genetisch verarmde populaties fruitvliegen. Van 2004 tot 2006 was ik werkzaam als dataprocessor/analist bij 2gather Data Services te Baarn.

Op dit ogenblik werk ik als Business Intelligence Consultant bij Aexis in Leusden.

I am married to Danielle Werkman, and together we have 2 sons, Tobias Hendrik (born 3-7-2003) and Roeland Frederik (born (21-3-2006).

I received my first education on primary and secondary schools located in Kampen (until 1979) and Elburg. After graduating highschool in 1990 at the Lambert Franckens College in Elburg, I went to study Biology at the University of Groningen Biologie. I received my MSc in 1996 in Population Genetics. From march 1997, I worked as a PhD student at the Netherlands Institute of Ecology, Center for Terrestrial Ecology in Heteren. At the department of Plant Population Biology, I worked on my thesis on host race differentiation of smut fungi in sympatric populations of Silene latifolia and S. dioica. I reveiced my PhD on the 25th of march 2002 at the Utrecht University. From 2001 until 2004 I worked at the department of Evolutionary Genetics of the University of Groningen where I studied the evolutionary potential of genetically eroded populations of fruit flies. From 2004 until 2006, I worked as a data processor/analyst at 2gather Data Services located in Baarn.

Currently, I work as a Business Intelligence Consultant for Aexis in Leusden.
